The master of the epic cinema, director Sir Ridley Scott, presents right on time for the festive season his epic reimagination of the dramatic biblical story of Moses (Christian Bale) and Ramses (Joel Edgerton) and the monumental escape of 400‘000 slaves from Egypt and its terrifying cycle of deadly plagues: Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014). For this upcoming epic action-adventure Scott has recruited three-time Academy Award nominee Alberto Iglesias to compose the film’s soundtrack.
The recording of Exodus: Gods and Kings took place at the legendary Abbey Road Studios, where film music masterpieces like “Star Wars” and “The Lord of the Rings” where brought to life too. For bringing his own musical epic to life, Alberto Iglesias hired strings, choir, featured soloists and soulful vocals. Iglesias provides for the biblical material a historic yet modern feel and skillfully masters the gap between subtle emotion and martial brutality. Der Meister des Epen-Kinos, Regisseur Sir Ridley Scott, präsentiert mit Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014) pünktlich zur Festtagszeit eine fulminante Neuinszenierung der dramatischen Flucht Moses‘ (Christian Bale) zusammen mit 400‘000 Sklaven aus den Fängen des ägyptischen Pharaos Ramses (Joel Edgerton). Um dem visuellen Spektakel auch eine kräftige Tonspur an die Seite stellen zu können, wendete sich Scott an den dreifach Oscar-nominierten Filmkomponisten Alberto Iglesias.
Die Musikaufnahmen erfolgten im September und Oktober in den legendären Abbey Road Studios, wo schon Filmmusik-Klassiker wie “Star Wars” (1977–2005) und “The Lord of the Rings” (2001–2003) eingespielt wurden. Um eine ebenso intime und dramatische wie epische Komposition für Exodus: Gods and Kings schaffen zu können, bediente sich Alberto Iglesias einem grossen Streicherkörper, Chor und Instrumental- und Gesangssolisten. Mit seiner Musik hüllt er die Geschichte in ein ebenso altertümliches wie zeitgenössisches Klanggewand und verleiht dem Film Intimität und brachialen Bombast zugleich.
